A Patent Attorney, Eric Enderlin advises clients on patents in the areas of biology and biotechnology, in particular, functionalised micro-arrays, laboratories on a chip, processes for treating effluents and contaminated soils by means of micro-organisms, mimetic peptides, medical and diagnostic genetics, oncology, peptic sequences, nucleotide sequences, screening methods, ligands, cellular cultures, micro-organism cultures, animal models and nutrition. He also provides patent support to clients in the areas of chemistry and materials, in particular, organic coatings, prostheses or electronic devices, electrochemical grafting, composite materials, collectors, energetic materials, alloys, organic polymers, biopolymers, nanomaterials, organometallic nanomaterials, catalysts, batteries and energy storage. Eric also leads the Chemistry & Life Sciences Department in France.

Career history

Eric holds a Masters degree in Biochemistry (Université Louis Pasteur de Strasbourg), a Masters degree II in Law, Economy, Management, specialising in Intellectual Property Law (Université de Strasbourg) and a patent litigation degree (Université de Strasbourg). He also gained a degree from the Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI), specialising in patents (Université de Strasbourg) in 1994. Eric has been a French Patent Attorney since 2004 and a European Patent Attorney at the EPO since 2004. He has also been an authorised Patent Attorney at the German Patent Office since 2017.

Eric started his career in IP in 1995. He subsequently joined Bredema in 2006 and then Novagraaf Technologies, due to the merging of the two offices in 2009.

Work highlights

Eric has been teaching applied law of intellectual property and law and innovation in the areas of chemistry, medicines and life sciences (Masters II Law) at the Université Paris-Saclay Panthéon-Sorbonne since 2007. Eric also teaches in the context of the continuing education of doctors in hospital environments, on the detection of patentable innovations in medical practice (AP-HP), as well as in seminars on medicines (IEEPI). Furthermore, Eric is an examiner for patent attorney qualifications before the INPI in the areas of Chemistry and Life Sciences.

Eric is a member of the EPI (European Patent Institute), the CNCPI (National Intellectual Property Attorneys’ Association), the LES (Licensing Executives Society) and the AIPPI (International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property). Eric is also a member of the National Commission on innovations in the hospital environment and a member of the disciplinary chamber of the CNCPI.

Eric's specialist areas include: drafting patents and optimal and strategic management of procedures for the submission of French, European, international (PCT) and foreign patent applications, opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office, opinion work in patentability, freedom-to-operate, infringement and validity of patents, national and international litigation and pre-litigation cases, confiscation of infringing products, IP strategies around innovative products, drafting and auditing patent portfolios, evaluating patent portfolios with a view to financial investments, FTO studies, drafting agreements and licences, setting up intellectual property policies in industry, inventions of employees and company policies, supporting start-ups based on innovative technologies and the organisation of questions of intellectual property, negotiations at the pre-litigation stage and in the context of setting up licensing contracts, the protection of innovation in the area of medicines, supplementary protection certificates and protection strategies, patent FTO and SPC studies, and strategies and pre-litigation files with a view to marketing generic drugs.
